Istanbul Photo Awards 2021

The Istanbul Photo Awards is an international news photography competition organized by Anadolu Ajansı (AA), a global news agency with more than a century of history. Aimed at advancing the field of photojournalism, the competition honors the efforts of courageous and talented professional photographers from around the world, awarded strictly based on merit. Over the years, it has grown into one of the world’s most respected and well-known photojournalism contests.

The Istanbul Photo Awards 2021 photobook features award-winning photographs in news, sports, daily life, and portrait categories from the previous year. The selection ranges from the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beirut explosion, and the Nagorno-Karabakh war, to children learning karate in Aleppo and the cultural rituals of Kok Boru, Kyrgyzstan’s national sport. The cover showcases Mother’s Love, a powerful photograph taken in Bangladesh by photojournalist Muhammad Shajahan, which received the Photo of the Year award.
