Kara Elmasa Can Verenler

“Kara Elmasa Can Verenler” tells—through striking photography—the story of labor born of sweat and struggle in Zonguldak’s coal mines. Anadolu Ajansı (AA) photojournalist Cem Özdel descended 630 meters underground with miners, revealing the true light within darkness—the diamond-like gleam of human toil.

Documenting with deep empathy the miners’ resilience, sacrifice, and daily struggle for survival, this work reminds us that the true “black diamond” is not coal, but the glow of human labor itself.

As the first comprehensive photographic study from Zonguldak’s mines, this book stands as both a documentary record and a tribute to those who dedicate their lives to labor beneath the earth.
