Yıllık 1925

The year 1925 marks a period in which the political, social, and economic structures of the Republic of Türkiye—newly founded in the aftermath of independence—came into clearer focus. During this year, decisions affecting the state’s administrative organization, legal framework, and social life intensified, ushering in a far-reaching process of transformation.

Yıllık 1925 presents the key developments of this formative period in a coherent chronological framework, drawing on the extensive archives and primary sources of Anadolu Ajansı (AA), and enriching the narrative with visual material.

The volume examines in detail some of the era’s most contentious events, including the Sheikh Said Rebellion, the implementation of the Law on the Maintenance of Order, the activities of the Independence Tribunals, the closure of the Progressive Republican Party, reforms concerning hats and dress, and the measures taken to close dervish lodges and shrines.

Alongside these political and social transformations, the volume also highlights major developments in production and technology, such as Vecihi Hürkuş’s flight in the first domestically produced aircraft, the founding of the Turkish Aeronautical Association, TOMTAŞ, and early initiatives in the defense industry. In addition to developments within Türkiye, international events that shaped the global outlook of the same year—such as the Locarno Treaties, peace initiatives in Europe, the Scopes Trial, developments in the Soviet Union, and emerging dynamics in the Middle East—are also placed within a broader global context.
