On the night of July 15, 2016, Türkiye faced one of the gravest attacks in its history. FETÖ coup plotters targeted the very existence of the Turkish state and nation, bombing the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, attacking state institutions, killing 253 people and injuring thousands more. Following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call for citizens to take to the streets, millions stood against the coup attempt and prevented the plotters from succeeding.
Prepared as a work of remembrance on the tenth anniversary of the failed coup attempt, thwarted through the determination of the political leadership and the resolve of the Turkish nation, July 15 – Witnesses and Confessions examines the events of July 15 through the testimonies of state institutions, public squares, the nation, cities, and the international community. The book also presents the confessions of FETÖ members recorded during the investigation and trial proceedings. The preparations for the coup, the organization’s internal structure, and the events of the night of July 15 are revealed through the perpetrators’ own accounts. Drawing on Anadolu Agency’s extensive archives of photographs, news reports, and publications, the book brings together diverse testimonies that document the events of July 15.
