100 Yıllık Türkiye

Since its founding, Anadolu Agency (AA) has carried the banner of being “the voice of Türkiye” and has evolved into an international media institution under the vision of becoming “the herald of a changing world.” Now, as part of its distinguished body of publications, AA presents 100 Years of Türkiye—a sweeping chronicle of the country’s transformation from 1920 to 2020.

Produced with the support of Ziraat Bank and drawing on the vast visual and journalistic archive of AA, this remarkable volume captures the defining episodes of a century.

From the emergence of the national resistance against occupying powers in the early 1920s to the founding of the Republic; from the transition to a multi-party democracy to the capture of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan; from the devastating 1999 earthquake to Türkiye’s landmark cross-border military operations—Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, Peace Spring, and Spring Shield—the book charts the major currents that have shaped the nation.

It follows the adoption of the Presidential Government System and the election of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as its first president, the global resonance of the Jamal Khashoggi assassination, the launch of Türkiye’s first domestically produced car TOGG, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also documented are the opening of megaprojects such as the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, the Eurasia Tunnel, the TurkStream Natural Gas Pipeline, the Ovit Tunnel, and Istanbul Airport. The volume closes with a tribute to scientific excellence: Aziz Sancar’s historic recognition as the first Turkish scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
