At the heart of this work lies the remarkable institutional strengthening of Anadolu Ajansı (AA) in Türkiye, shaped under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Drawing on comparative data from 2002 to 2024, the study presents a clear and comprehensive picture of how public investment in public broadcasting has reshaped AA from its origins to its current global stature.

Founded on April 6, 1920, upon the directive of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during the tumultuous days of the War of Independence, AA was established to amplify the rightful voice of the National Struggle to the world. Today, it has evolved into a global media organization publishing and broadcasting news in 13 languages across 137 countries. This work examines the structural dimensions of that transformation within a historical context, portraying AA not merely as a news agency, but as a key bearer of Türkiye’s vision for independent journalism.

While preserving its traditional journalistic heritage, Anadolu Agency has made strategic moves in digital publishing, AI-assisted content creation, and big data analytics. Through its AA Teknoloji brand, the agency has institutionalized its digital transformation, not only preserving its legacy but also reinforcing its forward-looking vision.

This transformation reflects Türkiye’s broader evolution—including in the fields of media and communication—and is examined here in detail through the case of Anadolu Ajansı. As the institutional vehicle for the Erdoğan-era communication strategy, AA continues to defend the core values of journalism and truth-based reporting on a global scale, remaining true to its founding mission.

Serving as a historical bridge between the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Türkiye, Anadolu Ajansı embodies continuity in Turkish press history. This book highlights that continuity while offering a comprehensive framework for understanding Türkiye’s media evolution, the transformation of public broadcasting, and AA’s positioning in the competitive global news ecosystem.

The Agency’s journey from its foundation to the present day offers not only a deep understanding of the past but also valuable foresight for the future.
